Shifting the origins of the biodynamic tradition.

150 years ago, Flurlingen was the largest wine-growing community in the Zurich Wine Country. At its peak, around 48 ha of vineyards were cultivated, divided among well over 100 owners. Of the former 29 field and house presses, only 4 remain today. At the end of the 19th century, viticulture came under pressure due to sharply declining sales and the expansion of settlement areas. At the beginning of the 21st century, the final transformation to today’s vineyard area was completed.

The most influential winemaker in Flurlingen was Heiner Hertli. With great passion, he successfully cultivated the traditional grape variety “Tokayer” (Pinot Gris) (the image above shows a detail of the Tokayer label from 1922).

The history of Flurlingen viticulture continues to be written.
